NLOG local walks protocol

  • Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with the fact sheets before joining a walk.
  • Please could all walk leaders send the local walks coordinator the names of all attendees.
  • If you would like a lift or are able to offer one, please use the group email to arrange this with group members.
  • Unfortunately we no longer allow dogs to join us on our walks.
  • You take part in all events at your own risk.
  AUGUST
Friday 1st EVENING WALK - WILD HILL - A 4 mile circular walk.

Walk leader: Neil

Meet: outside The Woodman pub, Wild Hill AL9 6EA for a prompt 6.30pm start (do not park in pub car park).
Thursday 7th EVENING WALK - NOTORIOUS LONDON: THE EASTERN CITY WALK - A 3.5 mile circular walk from the city wall in the east. Focusing, as ever, on the macabre, the walk will take in the locations of botched executions, the final resting place of thousands of plague victims and the site at which evidence from a murder scene may have finally revealed the identity of Jack the Ripper. If that’s not enough, there are literary connections a-plenty, as well as the stone at the symbolic heart of the city.

Meet: Tower Hill Underground Station (Circle/District Line) 6.50pm for a 7pm start.
Sunday 10th DAY WALK - BUNTINGFORD CIRCULAR - An 11 mile circular walk from Buntingford. A walk through fields and woodland with lovely views across Hertfordshire. Bring lunch and drinks with you. There will be the opportunity for a drink in Buntingford after the walk. Approx. 40 minutes’ drive from Barnet. Car park is free on Sunday.

Monday 11th EVENING WALK - BARNET COURT HOUSE CIRCULAR - A 3 mile circular walk, from Barnet Everyman, up to High Barnet via the Old Court House Recreation Ground, returning through King George’s Fields and Highland Gardens.

Sunday 17th HALF DAY WALK - BARNET TO ALEXANDRA PALACE FARMERS MARKET (LINEAR WALK) - A 6.5 mile linear walk from Oak Hill Park, following the Pymmes Brook, then crossing to the New River, ending at Ally Pally farmers market, where food and drink is available. Short walk back to Ally Pally station after for trains or buses (or perhaps a walk back).

Meet: at 9.45am at the entrance to Oak Hill Park, on the corner of Little Grove and Church Hill Road, for a prompt 10am start.
Wednesday 20th EVENING WALK - HAWKSHEAD WOOD WALK (near South Mimms) - A 3.5 mile circular walk.

Meet: at 6.45 pm for a prompt 7 pm start outside The Woodman Pub, 21 Warrengate Road, Hatfield AL9 7TT (do not park in pub car park)

Friday 29th EVENING WALK - TRENT PARK - A short circular walk in Trent Park (under 4 miles), starting and ending by Oakwood Station. Followed by an optional meal locally. Bring a torch.

Meet: for a 6.45pm prompt start under the clock outside Oakwood tube station (Piccadilly Line), Bramley Road, London N14 4UT
Saturday 30th HALF DAY / DAY WALK - PITSTONE WINDMILL ASHRIDGE CIRCULAR - A 7-mile circular walk in Ashridge. Starting at the Bridgewater Monument then visiting Pitstone Windmill and Pitstone Hill before returning to the monument through the woods. Meet: for a 9am start at the Bridgewater Monument, Ashridge Estate, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire HP4 1LX. There is parking on Monument Drive near the monument but the car parks fill up early so you may need to park on the verge.

Saturday 13th DAY WALK - HIGH BARNET TO TRENT PARK CIRCULAR - A 10 mile circular walk from High Barnet via Hadley Common, past the White Gates to Trent Park. Bring lunch and drinks with you.
