NLOG local walks protocol
- Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with the fact sheets before joining a walk.
- Please could all walk leaders send the local walks coordinator the names of all attendees.
- If you would like a lift or are able to offer one, please use the group email to arrange this with group members.
- Unfortunately we no longer allow dogs to join us on our walks.
- You take part in all events at your own risk.

Sunday 1st | DAY WALK - HEARTWOOD FOREST/SANDRIDGE - A 9 mile circular walk from Heartwood Forest in Sandridge, via Childwick Green, Batch Wood and Langley Wood. Please bring a packed lunch. Opportunity for a drink in the pub garden after the walk. Walk leader: Julie Meet: at 10.15 am for a 10.30 am start from Heartwood Forest free car park, Sandridge, AL4 9DQ (signposted just off the B651) |
Thursday 5th | EVENING WALK - ESSENDON - A 4.5 mile circular evening walk from Essendon. Walk leader: Julie Meet: at 6.30 pm for a 6.45 pm start at St Mary’s Church, 2 Church Street, Essendon, AL9 6AS (parking on roads around the village). |
Sunday 8th | DAY WALK - HAMPSTEAD HEATH CIRCULAR - An 11-mile circular day walk starting and ending at East Finchley tube station (Northern Line High Barnet Branch). We’ll start out on the Capital Ring to Highgate Woods, then go through Highgate to Hampstead Heath. Taking in the Hampstead Heath extension before a short stretch on the road to return to East Finchley tube station. Please bring lunch with you. There will be an opportunity for hot drinks during a lunch break by Golders Hill Park Refreshment House about half way round. Walk leader: Claire Meet: 9.45am for 10.00am start at East Finchley tube station. |
Monday 9th | EVENING WALK - BARNET CIRCULAR - A 4 mile walk covering the Old Court House Gardens, King George’s Fields, Tudor Park and Highlands Gardens in Barnet. Tuesday 10th | SOCIAL - TALK - Timandra Slade ‘From a Hard Place to a Rock’ presentation. ‘While sorting through documents she discovered in an old suitcase, Timandra Slade was astonished to uncover the remarkable story of two soldiers - her father and his cousin. Captured during the war, they managed to escape and navigate their way through occupied territory to reach Gibraltar’. The talk will include their journey crossing the Pyrenees. Her books will be available to buy on the night. Meet: at Discovery Hall at 8pm. |
Sunday 15th | DAY WALK - WELWYN GARDEN CITY - A 10 mile circular - A ‘new’ 10 mile circular walk through hidden woods, fields and streams around WGC, Codicot and Ayot St Lawrence area. There are tea shops in WGC town, but please bring water and a packed lunch. Google maps reckon 25 minutes drive time from Barnet or train from New Barnet. Walk leader: Neil Meet at 10.00am on steps of Welwyn Garden City train station, by McDonalds. |
Tuesday 17th | EVENING WALK - OAK HILL PARK TO ARNOS PARK - A 4 / 5 mile circular walk through Oak Hill Park following Pymmes Brook to Brunswick Park then along Waterfall Walk to Arnos Park and back again. Walk leader: Claire Meet: 6.30pm for 6.45pm start in Oak Hill Park at the corner of Church Hill Road / Little Grove |

Wednesday 25th | EVENING WALK - HADLEY COMMON AND WOODS TO JACKS LAKE - A 4.5 mile circular walk through picturesque Monken Hadley Common and Woods to Jack’s Lake and back. Walk leader: Julie Meet: 7.00 pm start outside Ye Olde Monken Holt (the Monk Pub), 193 High Street, Barnet, EN5 5SU |

Thursday 3rd | EVENING WALK - GOLDERS GREEN TO HIGHGATE - A 4.5 mile linear walk starting from Golders Green Tube station (Northern Line – Edgware Branch) continuing through West Heath, Hampsted Heath and Highgate Village. Walk leader: Claire Meet: Golders Green tube station at 6.30pm for 6.45pm start. The walk finishes at Highgate Station (Northern Line – Barnet branch) |

Wednesday 16th | EVENING WALK - POTTERS BAR - A 4 mile circular walk along footpaths and fields around Potters Bar. We will go to the Admiral Byng afterwards where you should be able to get food as well as a drink. Walk leader: Alex Meet: 7:10 for 7.15pm start outside Potters Bar station EN6 1SQ. Parking in nearby streets. |

Thursday 24th | EVENING WALK - RIDGE CIRCULAR - A 4 mile circular walk. Option for refreshments back at the Old Guinea pub afterwards. Walk leader: Neil Meet: 6.50pm for 7.00pm start outside The Old Guinea Pub, Ridge, Herts EN6 3LH. |
Sunday 27th | DAY WALK - WARE - A 10 mile circular walk following the canal then to Wareside area via woods and streams. There are tea shops in Ware town, but please bring water and a packed lunch. (approx 40 minute drive from Barnet) Walk leader: Neil Meet: 10.00 am at Kibes Lane NORTH car park, Ware, SG12 9BX (there now appears to be a £2.00 charge to park on Sundays) |
Tuesday 29th | EVENING WALK - REGENTS PARK / PRIMROSE HILL - A 3.5 mile circular walk around Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. The Regent’s Park area provides elegant and interesting settings for walkers in the heart of London. The park was the idea of the Prince Regent, later to become George IV. Much of the design was by John Nash. Walk leader: Julie Meet: 6.50pm for a prompt 7.00 pm start outside Regent’s Park underground station (Bakerloo line). |

Thursday 7th | EVENING WALK - NOTORIOUS LONDON: THE EASTERN CITY WALK - A 3.5 mile circular walk from the city wall in the east. Focusing, as ever, on the macabre, the walk will take in the locations of botched executions, the final resting place of thousands of plague victims and the site at which evidence from a murder scene may have finally revealed the identity of Jack the Ripper. If that’s not enough, there are literary connections a-plenty, as well as the stone at the symbolic heart of the city. Walk leader: Peter Meet: Tower Hill Underground Station (Circle/District Line) 6.50pm for a 7pm start. |
